Victoria’s energy crisis must be addressed by allowing onshore conventional gas exploration

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry today welcomes a policy from the Liberal Nationals supporting onshore conventional gas exploration on a case by case basis.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Mark Stone AM said the moratorium on onshore conventional gas exploration until 2020 was putting Victoria at a disadvantage and should be removed to allow for exploration on a case by case basis.

Grand Final eve public holiday will hit businesses hard

Thousands of businesses are facing a huge bill to pay people not to come to work on Friday’s Grand Final eve public holiday, the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said today.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Mark Stone AM said Victorian businesses cannot afford to pay for this public holiday, with many choosing to shut their doors to minimise their losses.

Small cleaning businesses will struggle to survive under new schools cleaning contracts

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is deeply concerned about the impact new school cleaning contracts will have on small cleaning businesses in Victoria.

In 2018, the Victorian Government will introduce a new system where eight zones will be created across metropolitan Melbourne and a single cleaning contract will be awarded for all schools in each zone. Businesses must submit Expressions of Interest by this Friday.

Employers face extra costs, excessive admin under proposed changes to long service leave

The proposed new Long Service Leave Bill 2017 will disadvantage employers and create a significant administration burden for businesses, according to the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Victorian Chamber is calling for Parliament to amend parts of this Bill because the changes will result in increased costs and additional obligations for employers.

The approved Queen Victoria Market Renewal Program must urgently proceed if we are to maintain one of Melbourne’s most loved tourist attractions and a vibrant part of the CBD precinct, the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said today.

Skills shortages in Australian workforce filled by poaching and training, more than overseas workers

More than a quarter of Victorian businesses affected by changes to 457 Visas for foreign workers say they will look to employ Australian workers, a survey by the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry indicates.

Of 323 Victorian businesses responding to the latest Survey of Business Trends and Prospects, 60 per cent said they invest in training or poach employees from their competitors to fill skills gaps.

Regional Rail Revival package will benefit all Victorians

Regional Victorian businesses are the big winners from a $1.42 billion funding boost to the regional rail network, following an agreement between the Federal and State Government to commit to the transport infrastructure package.

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Mark Stone AM today said regional Victorians should celebrate the announcement, as the rail upgrade will be coupled with the Victorian Government’s committed $530.6 million upgrade to regional roads and bridges.

Federal Budget provides infrastructure boost to Victoria

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomes major investment in Victorian infrastructure in the 2017-18 Federal Budget.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Acting Chief Executive Bryce Prosser said the budget was a positive outcome for Victoria and demonstrates responsible economic management with a projected return to surplus in 2020-21.

“This budget builds on the good outcomes for Victorian business delivered in last week’s Victorian budget,” he said.
