Emergency assistance payments and other non-financial support is available to people affected by the bushfires. More support may be provided by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments once the full extent of damage is known – check back often to make sure you have access to the most current information and receive the support you need.

Victorian Chamber assistance for any business in a disaster declared area

As part of our response, the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (the Victorian Chamber) and the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) have established a 12-month, $500,000 support package to assist businesses affected by the Victorian bushfires.

All services under this support package will be provided at no cost to any business in a Victorian natural disaster declared area where emergency re-establishment assistance is offered. Services include:

  • Mental health support with access to a confidential counselling services
  • Access to our local training and business mentoring, with a focus on health, safety and wellbeing courses and business restoration
  • Access to our Workplace Relations Advice Line
  • Membership fee waiver for Victorian Chamber and VTIC members for the next 12 months (this will be automatically applied for eligible members).

The Victorian Chamber and VTIC will continue to work with the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments on a comprehensive, whole of State package that delivers meaningful support and business outcomes.

Workplace relations advice

Special provisions are available to employers whose business is disrupted by the bushfires. To find out about when an employer can stand an employee down, whether they need to be paid, and the difference between a stand down and a shut down, and any workplace relations advice, please contact the Workplace Relations Advice Line; members phone 03 8662 5222, non-members phone 03 8662 5333 or make an online inquiry.

Personal well-being

It is normal to feel anxious or physically, mentally and emotionally unwell after a distressing or frightening event.

Support is available to you and your family from Lifeline (13 11 14), Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636 or online chat) or at any of these services.

Insurance

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has set up a national hotline (1800 734 621) for anyone with questions about their bushfire insurance, including helping to link them with their insurer if they have lost their documents. 

Farm support

Landholders needing emergency fodder for livestock should contact the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF ) on 1300 882 833 between 9am and 5pm or email fodder@vff.org.au
