Fair Work update - 'Keeping it casual'.

Keeping up to date with developments in employment law should be a priority for all businesses. As part of our regular Fair Work update series we will commence the session by talking about recent developments which are of interest to all employers – regardless of size or sector.

There have been a number of recent changes for employers, which we will cover in simple and practical terms, including changes relating to Flexible Work Arrangements, Domestic Violence Leave, Casual Conversion clauses, as well as an overview of Victorian specific changes or proposed changes in respect of Long Service Leave, Portable Long Service Leave, Criminalisation of Wages Underpayment, Labour Hire Licencing and Gender Pay equity.

This session will then focus on the recent landmark case of Skene vs Workpac, which has significant implications for all employers of casual staff.

This session will focus on:

  • The status of casual employment generally under the awards and Fair Work Act
  • The Skene vs Workpac case as new law in respect of casuals and NES entitlements
  • Current legislative situation and government intervention
  • Practical steps on how employers can best manage their risk
  • The costs of non-compliance

These sessions will be delivered by our skilled Workplace Relations specialists and will help to ensure that your business is protected by being on top of the ever changing landscape.
