If someone is injured in your workplace an investigation will help you identify the causes and help you to put processes in place to prevent future injuries. This course will show you how to conduct a thorough investigation and give you the skills to review your findings and put the right strategies and processes in place.

Learning outcomes

During this program, you will increase your knowledge of:

  • Applying knowledge of work health and safety (WHS) legislation to identify duty holders and legislative requirements
  • Applying knowledge of workplace policies, procedures and processes to identify workplace requirements
  • Communicating requirements to individuals and appropriate parties
  • Using appropriate techniques when participating in workplace investigations
  • Reviewing reports on incidents, injuries and illnesses
  • Communicating recommendations arising from investigations
  • Assisting with preparing measures and actions appropriate to the job role and work area

Learning Pathways

Participants have the option to complete a post-course assessment, within 3 months from the date of the course.

If you successfully complete the post-course assessment, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents. This will give you credit into the Cert IV in Work, Health and Safety and a range of other similar level qualifications.


This course is suited to anyone who might be part of OHS incident investigations, including managers, HR staff and safety representatives or supervisors.
