Mental Health First Aid (Blended)

Course participants first complete the interactive self-paced eLearning component (set up by the Victorian Chamber) that teaches them about mental health problems, mental health crises and skills to offer initial help to an adult developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.

This course is designed for workplaces that find it difficult to release their staff to attend the 2 day Mental Health First Aid course. It is completed in a blended format, combining 6-8 hours eLearning (set up by the Victorian Chamber) plus a follow-up half day face-to-face session. The online content is tailored to the workplace setting.

Learning outcomes

Course participants first complete the interactive self-paced eLearning component that teaches them about:

  • Mental Health problems
  • Mental Health crises
  • Skills to offer initial help to an adult developing a metal health problem, experiencing a worsening of a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis

The follow-on face-to-face session allows participants the opportunity to revise and consolidate knowledge in a group environment, while applying their skills to specific scenarios. In this session, participants will:

  • Examine issues pertinent to mental health problems in the workplace in more depth
  • Clarify any points of uncertainty remaining after completion of the eLearning modules
  • Apply the MHFA action plan to relevant workplace scenarios
  • Discuss and reflect 'a where to from now' in using mental health first aid skills in the workplace

After completing both steps, participants are eligible to complete an online assessment in order to receive a Certificate of Accreditation as a Mental Health First Aider which is valid for 3 years.

Duration

Online program (set up by the Victorian Chamber and to be completed prior to attending the face to face course): 6-8 hours

Face to face program: 4 hours

Participants

This course is suited to any adult. Participants who complete this training are eligible to complete an online Accreditation Assessment in order to receive a Mental Health First Aider Certificate of Accreditation valid for 3 years

Note

Once enrolled, participants will be issued a voucher to complete their self-paced eLearning, prior to attending the face to face session. The face-to-face component requires completion within 3 months of undertaking the eLearning. There are some basic technological requirements for accessing the eLearning course. You will need the latest version of an internet browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, or Safari. Internet Explorer is no longer supported. Versions of Java and Flash should also be up-to-date.
